SACRAMENTO – Mendocino County adds its name to the list of 50 counties that have submitted letters opposing Assembly Bill 1250. In this jointly-written editorial published in the Ukiah Daily Journal, the CEO of Mendocino County along with the founder and executive director of a nonprofit highlight how AB 1250 would impact rural communities that are having a difficult time serving vulnerable members who are in need of certain services.
Excerpted editorial:
… AB 1250 is a particular threat for rural communities like ours that face tremendous difficulty recruiting qualified staff to provide services to our most vulnerable residents. In Mendocino County, persistent vacancies have required us to contract for a public health officer, public health nurses, mental health service providers and many more. … Restricting our county’s ability to provide these services in the most cost-effective manner will also increase costs for taxpayers and reduce funding available for other local services. … AB 1250 creates a host of social and fiscal problems, especially for our community. …
