What Happened To All The Homeless Money?

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti led a coalition in 2017 to pass Proposition HHH, a $1.2 billion bond to build approximately 10,000 units of “supportive” housing in the city.

That same year, Los Angeles County passed Measure H, a $3.5 billion sales tax for “homeless services and prevention.”

Fast forward, it’s now well into 2019 and the City of Los Angeles will now resume issuing citations to homeless people sleeping in cars, vans or RVs parked along residential areas.

From the Los Angeles Daily News: “LAPD officials recommended that city leaders create more ‘off-street’ parking sites, where they could refer people. … In the absence of such ‘off-street’ parking alternatives, the city has been responding to complaints about the growing number of people living in vehicles, particularly those who are in large campers or RVs.”

What happened to all the supportive housing, services and prevention promised in exchange for the billions in bond and sales tax money for the homeless?
