Senate Republicans are launching a 2026 legislative package to reduce wildfire risk, protect homeowners, and stabilize California’s insurance market.

On the list of bills they are authoring are:

  • SB 899 authored by Senator Shannon Grove: Measures the health costs and impacts of wildfire smoke on Californians.
  • SB 904 authored by Senator Kelly Seyarto: Establishes a consistent statewide framework to support rebuilding efforts following a governor-declared state of emergency related to wildfire.
  • SB 1084 authored by Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil: Makes home safety more affordable by providing tax credits for wildfire hardening and defensible space, helping homeowners stay protected and insurable.
  • SB 1118 authored by Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil: Offers financial relief through tax credits for backup power systems, ensuring high-risk households and small businesses stay operational during wildfires and utility shutoffs.
  • SB 1162 authored by Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil: Prioritizes wildfire prevention resources for the most vulnerable communities, aiming to reduce overall risk and stabilize the home insurance market.
